November has been the month of breaking records at Russell Books. With staff working to move thousands of books across the street into our new location, we were also moving thousands of books in another direction: upwards.
At the grand opening of our new home at 747 Fort Street, we broke the record for the tallest tower of Guinness World Records books. In an afternoon of excitement and anticipation, our staff created a stack of books that was 6 meters (19 feet, eight inches) tall and stood unsupported for 10 seconds.
A huge thank you to all those in our community and beyond who donated their copies of the Guinness World Records books, the friends, family and community members who attended the event, and Guinness World Records for helping us achieve this herculean feat!
Thank you to Vic News, CTV and ChekNews for covering our Guinness World Records official attempt.
We are thrilled to officially announce that we are moving to a BIGGER and BETTER space!
Our new home will be directly across the street at 747 Fort Street (the old Staples building). Opening in Fall 2019 it will offer more space, a simplified layout and will be much more accessible, with an elevator and escalator to the lower floor, while still offering the same Russell Books feel and lots and lots of books!
For over 28 years, Russell Books has proudly encouraged reading enthusiasts throughout the Greater Victoria community. We inspire a passion for reading and literacy through participation in community events, and provide ongoing support and partnership with groups and organizations in the book world and beyond.
