Stars

More has been written about film stars than about any other aspect of cinema. On its publication in 1980, this book was the first attempt to bring together all the various critical and the oretical approaches that have been made to the phenomenon of stardom. Richard Dyer's commentary on these approaches, and his own detailed work in this book on such stars as Bette Davis and Jane Fonda stimulated further work in an area of film studies still too little developed. This revised edition features a new chapter by Paul McDonald which traces the developments in the study of "Stars" since the first appearance of Richard Dyer's classic text.
