Olympia is the story of a family of post-war German immigrants, told from the point of view of their observant son, Peter -- born in the New World and raised in the sixties and seventies.
A family of athletes, they are haunted not only by the ghosts of the past but also by physical frailty and defeat. Peter's grandparents, former Olympic champions, struggle to put the past behind them. But for young Peter, it's the past that has defined all that he is and it's the past that has weakened this family of Olympians -- from the drowning of Peter's grandmother, Lottie, to the leukemia that flows through his sister's veins and ultimately claims her.
From childhood to adulthood we follow Peter through six Olympic Games until, in the end, it's love and geography that inspire him to confirm his place among the living.
