Los Angeles Kings; Hockeywood

The Kings seemed headed for another disappointing season in 1992-93 when captain Wayne Gretzky was forced to the sidelines with an injury. Not much would have been expected of the Kings even if Gretzky has been healthy. The Kings' biggest claim to fame in their previous 25 years was the uncanny ability to find new and exciting ways to frustrate their fans. More adversity followed in the playoffs, yet the Kings overcame it as well, and earned their first-ever trip to the Stanley Cup finals. They didn't bring home hockey's most cherished prize, but they laid to rest a legacy of failure and turned Hollywood into 'Hockeywood'.
