After the death of Steven Lindsay, his widow Jill cannot find his birth certificate. A relation searches for his official registration in Edinburgh, but he is not listed.

Why was his birth never recorded?

Jill eventually contacts an elderly family friend for further information and is stunned by what she learns about Steven's origins in wartime Glasgow.

However, it looks as though his father signed up for the army under a false name as his birth is also missing from the records.
