More Description

Lit Lite Historical Fiction: Tulips in the Snow is a comedy of manners which offers both humorous observations of village life in England and a dark exploration of the impact of moral corruption and treachery upon vulnerable and trusting souls. The peace of Anna's idyllic village life is rocked by the arrival of a handsome new carpenter in Heartbourne, who strides into her father's church - over nine years after she has walked down its aisle as a bride. Determined to remain faithful to her husband and family life, Anna agrees to move to Frampton, to escape from the danger of her unexpected infatuation. Her husband, however, begins to guess at her secret reason for leaving behind her childhood home and dearest friends. Human fallibility lies at centre of the novel and with more than the occasional nod towards the ironic and satirical narrative voice so loved by the readers of Austen, the novel transcends the mid-eighteenth century era in which it is set, asking questions about morality, guilt and responsibility, while exploring the need for compassion and forgiveness as an inescapable part of the human condition. The workings of the human heart are easily recognised by Emmaline and Abraham Gables and human weakness finds no hiding place in a village as small and characterful as Heartbourne.
