More Description

The five sections of the book tell different sides of the story of human relationships, taking you from flirtation to loss, and from passion to sorrow to the slender hope that is reborn with second chances. Because Red Is Your Favorite Color is Shawn's third published collection of poetry. As a frequent Open Mic and Featured Poet Performer, she has become known for her heartfelt, passionate verse. She has written this collection especially for lovers... .... who are trying to find love through the art of flirtation, ....who have discovered passion and are feeling the yearning from a long distance relationship or perhaps just can't bear to be away from each other for even a day, ....who are lucky enough to be involved in loving relationships so deep they are free and confident to express their ecstasy, ....who are feeling the pain of heartache, betrayal or loss, ....and who are bravely trying to start over again, knowing that love and companionship are worth giving it one more try. Reviews: Shawn Aveningo's poems are fully feminine; sensual, full of the experience of life as a very complete woman. The first section is The Art Of Flirtation where we catch glimpses of the heat of meeting a potential new lover in poems like Touch, where we are told: His fingers / touched not / my flesh. / Not yet. / But Oh, How I / felt him... It is the hope of passion yet to come. And the first acts of these passions, like in Oral Pleasure with the very hot, bone lean lines of: Taste buds delight. / Stillness on tongue, / a rapture. / Melted liquid / Lover. The second section is 'Til We Meet Again. Here, love has begun and we hear of both longing and passion. From Ebb And Flow: Crashing tidal waves of / love we made. / Sheets rumpled / white caps of the ocean / where we now lay. These are poems of relationships starting to grow, a poet in love. In A Love That's True, the third section of poems, we are farther down love's road. Here, lovers are familiar with each other and the time of guessing and hoping is past. Here we live more in the moment, as perhaps we should. From Bliss: for I couldn't bear / not having / the knowledge / of you.... That's pretty clear. Here lovers are comfortable enough to direct each other, as in Come: Come feel the touch of my bare skin / my nails skidding down your spine / your fingers caressing my breast. The fourth section, When It's Over walks us through the side of love where we suffer and grieve the end of a relationship, the letting go. From Storm Front: ..let it rain. / For I have no more tears / to nurture this lonely soul. And from Like Snow: Each flake / a story, a memory / unique. Here I Go Again is the final section of the book, the poet is willing to love again, for so we do. The human spirit strives to continue on. From Training Wheels: her friend's words / of supposed comfort, / Don't worry; / It's just like riding a bike. And from Not You: He kisses me softly / but he's not you. Well, of course he isn't, but we're kissing him anyway, aren't we? Life goes on. Shawn Aveningo crafted a collection of poems in Because Red is Your Favorite Color that fully experience the sensual world around us. In this world we fall in love, not always with the right person, but always with a passion and a hope. Aveningo infuses her language with a music whose rhythm is the heartbeat of reality. These are not poems that are confusing or obscure. They are colloquial and very clear, and they sound rich when read aloud. This is a book you will want to return to, time and time again. James Lee Jobe, Poet Aveningo's poems tell of a life experienced at full speed. In this, her latest collection, she splashes the pages with the wild emotions - love, lust, longing...and oh yes, the slippery one - passion... Bill Gainer, poet, Publisher
